I would like to respond to the comments made by Fagnum. First of all, with due all respect, as far as you are living in NY, you certainly have no idea whether they are illegal migrants or refugees, because the Thai government did not allow the international community, especially UNHCR to screen who is or is not a refugee according to international standard, the Refugee Convention of 1951. Therefore, you cannot categorically say that they are only illegal migrants, not refugees. I believe that some have an authentic fear of being perscuted by the Lao government because of political reasons, while some might have come to Thailand for economic reasons, or for settlement with their relatives in a third country.

UNHCR. Please get access to Hmong people ASAP. They really need your help. At the same time, you will find out the Hmong 's real intentions and then you will discover the real character/game of Pathet Lao.

Sofar there are only illegal migrants and no refugees, the international refugee convention is sowith not applicable. The access for refugee purpose is so with not well founded. Access is accordingly rejected. The same is also for another opinion that the return home of hmong would be against the said convention because of persecution is also not founded, because of no persecution existed. The access for sreening or persuading hmong to reside in the usa is also rejected. The access can sowith only be a normal official visit and always posible.

First, Vobby, I am not claiming that all the Hmong who had been sent back to Laos are refugees, for we, those of us in America, simply do not know this. To know who is or is not a refugee must be determined by UNHCR according to international standard. But sadly the Thai government did not allow this. Second, because as a refugee who is running from perscution, you have to enter another illegally; you do not have the time to wait until another country is consent. This is simply the nature of running from perscution, and UNHCR recognizes this. Third, though GOL has improved in many areas, there are still human rights violations in Laos; civil rights and liberties (e.g. freedom of speech and press) are not in fact protected. I do love my native country Laos, but it needs to be more opened.

It is hard to say that all the hmong send back from Thailand are refugees because they are entried with elligel. So it is righthing to deal with them by send them back home.
